Markington Primary School win Harrogate District Kwik Cricket Competition to earn place at North Yorkshire Youth Games.
With the eagerly anticipated clash to see if England can retain the Ashes down under, Harrogate had it’s own cricketing festival. Harrogate Borough Council once again held the Annual U11 Kwik Cricket Challenge on Tuesday 15th June. This year the event was hosted by Knaresborough Cricket Club and sponsored by Harrogate Sports Trophies.
Over 130 children took part from 12 Schools and the event was supported by 8 young cricket leaders from King James School in Knaresborough as well as representatives from Pannal, Birstwith and Knaresborough Forest Cricket Clubs, helping with umpiring. The final saw Markington School and Chapter House School battling it out. Chapter House batted first and after a slow start built up to get a defendable total. Markington set about chasing down the total and after losing a couple of early wickets cruised home to a comfortable win, with some notable hits one of which ending up in the field across the road.
Markington were crowned the winners and won the honour of representing Harrogate at the North Yorkshire Youth Games, held on Sunday 4th July at Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick where they came third out of 9 School Sports Partnerships across North Yorkshire, so well done to them!
