Business rates information 2012/13
The number of business ratepayers in the borough fluctuates but as at 22 February 2012 it was 6717. The council expects to collect about £54.5m in non-domestic rates in 2012/13.
Business rates are calculated by multiplying a property's rateable value by the non-domestic multiplier. For 2012/13 this is 45.8p (45.0p for small businesses).
Business rates are paid into a national pool and the proceeds are redistributed as part of the grant from central government. There is no relationship between the amount of rates collected in the Harrogate area and the amount redistributed to this area, which in 2012/13 will be:
| North Yorkshire County Council |
£30.1m |
| North Yorkshire Police Authority |
£ 6.4m |
| North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Authority |
£ 2.6m |
| Harrogate Borough Council |
£ 7.5m |
The annual information leaflet (pdf form, link opens in a new window), is published in March each year and sent out with the non-domestic rates bills.
