Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance is situated in a special room near to the Chapel at Stonefall Cemetery. The Book is handmade and bound in leather, composed of leaves of the finest vellum.

Pages are allocated to each day of the year and inscriptions are usually placed within the Book on the date of death, or occasionally on a joint date such as a wedding anniversary, especially if commemorating more than one person. The page is displayed and opened at the corresponding day so that entries may be viewed.

Opening Hours:
9am - 4pm Monday to Friday
10am - 4pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays

If you are unable to view the Book on a specific date, the staff can open it to the appropriate date with prior notice, if the specific Book is available.

Electronic Book of Remembrance at Stonefall Crematorium

Improved access to the Book of Remembrance was the prime reason for the development of an electronic version, but it is far from the only benefit.

For each entry, you can include:

  • Inscriptions
  • Up to four screens of text
  • Up to four screen of photographs

These can then be used to produce a truly unique memory of your loved one(s).

The kind of information that might provide the basis of additional screens includes:

  • Photographs of the person(s) commemorated
  • A brief biography
  • A favourite verse or piece of prose
  • Photographs of significant places or occasions

Electronic Book of Remembrance online service

The online Book of Remembrance service allows those loved ones not able to visit the crematorium, for reasons of distance or infirmity, access to the Book.

Memorial Cards

These cards are gilt edged and carefully inscribed to the same high standards as they appear in the Book of Remembrance.

The cards are particularly suited for sending to distant friends and relatives.

Miniature Books

Leather bound, the Miniature Books provide a similar service as the Memorial Cards but are to a much higher quality. They can be used as personal family records and additional inscriptions can be entered if required.

Specimens of the Memorial Card and Miniature Book may be seen at the Crematorium Office.

Vase Block and Plaque

The plaque is combined with a container for holding flowers and is located near the Columbarium building adjacent to the Memorial Gardens at Stonefall. Stonefall Cemetary

All plaques are purchased for an initial fixed period, after which an opportunity to renew is offered.

In order to preserve the natural appearance and beauty of the Gardens, it is requested that no personal articles are left. Fresh cut flowers or a small wreath only may be laid immediately behind a kerbside plaque or any grassed area and these will be disposed of regularly by the grounds staff during their maintenance programme.

Kerb Plaque

A single bronze plaque can be purchased and placed in designated areas within the Gardens, and a double inscription can be placed on a plaque if desired. Stonefall Cemetary

Tree and Plaque

These are located on both sides of the road leading up to the Eternal Flame as well as in the Memorial Garden.

The trees, such as the green Canadian Maples (Acer Platanoides), have a fixed block in front, on which the plaques are placed, along with a flower holder.

These are located on both sides of the road leading up to the Eternal Flame as well as in the Memorial Garden.

Please note that no other articles are permitted to be left around the tree.

Seats and Plaques

Columbarium

The Columbarium, which in Latin is a 'dovecot', is a memorial structure built adjacent to the Memorial Garden in Stonefall Cemetery. It offers an alternative to the formal strewing or burial of cremated remains.
Stonefall Cemetary

The ‘Columbarium Niche Resting Place’ has recently been refurbished in October 2010, and provides an additional aspect of the memorialisation currently on offer at Stonefall Cemetery. Two large granite tablets set aside on sandstone pillars, let the visitor know they have arrived at this positively special area of dedication.

The focal point  of the Columbarium, is the Birdbath Pedestal Memorial. This unique option is an eight faced polished granite sculpture and offers five tiers of black tablet plaques to personalise with inscriptions and motifs. Plaques are purchased for an initial 12-year period and can be renewed once the lease expires.
Situated alongside the rear wall of the Columbarium building, is the opportunity to memorialise your loved one with a traditional black granite plaque bearing an inscription and an additional motif if required. Plaques are housed in a granite casing with an ornate rose carving at the top of each unit. Plaques are purchased for an initial 12-year period and can be renewed once the lease expires.
Each individual niche in the Columbarium can house two sets of cremated remains, behind a Balmoral Red brushed granite tablet. Each tablet can bear a motif or photograph plaque alongside two inscriptions for each of the deceased.  The Columbarium offers an alternative to traditional burial with a reduced requirement for maintenance. Columbarium niches are purchased for 15 years initially with the option to extend at the termination of the lease period.
