The Sports Development Team operates within the service area of Culture, Tourism and Sport in the Department of Development Services, and is based in the development office at the Hydro Pool and Fitness Centre.
The Scheme aims to provide the opportunity for everyone in the district to take part in physical activity and sport at whatever level they wish, to support individuals to maximise their sporting abilities and to provide pathways to sporting excellence.
The Sports Development Team delivers an extensive range of coach education courses, funding workshops and club development courses as well as regular coached activities and events throughout the district in our schools, sports centres and community centres. The new Fit 4 Fun initiative is a four-year project funded through the Big Lottery’s Reaching Communities programme. The new initiative aims to encourage less physical active community members to improve their health, physical activity levels and confidence through free activities and training with our team of four Activity Rangers across the district.
We are committed to engaging more people to take part in sport and physical activity and endeavor to use the inspiration of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games to help do this and create a lasting legacy.
