Children Come Up With Winning Home Designs
The district's
householders and council tax-payers of the future were recently asked to design their 'ideal home' in a drawing competition being organised by the council's Housing section.
Over 200 entries were submitted from children right across the district aged between 5 and 14.
There were some outstanding entries in all of the age groups and some very imaginative drawings of homes with swimming pools, stables and even a helicopter landing pad.
But the winning design came from 13 year-old Freddie Smithson of Knaresborough
whose aerial design of a grand house nestling on a Riverside stood out from all the other entries.
Freddie had also taken the initiative of showing his design appearing as the front page of the Tenants' Handbook where indeed it will be displayed.
Not many children get the opportunity to visit the Mayor of the Borough in their own 'civic home' at the Council's Offices, but Freddie and all the other age group winners and their parents have been invited to take a peep in the Mayor's Parlour at 4.00 pm Tuesday, 19 July when the Mayor, Councillor Caroline Bayliss, will present Freddie with his prize of a CD/hi-fi system.
The other age group winners will get prizes generously donated by Lightwater Valley, Asda, Morrisons, The Rocking Horse, Early Learning Centre, W H Smith, UK Superbowl and Odeon Cinema.
