Clifford was the son of Mrs. mary Elizabeth Gill of 18 Albany Road, Harrogate, who subsequently moved to 10 Church Avenue.
He was only 18 years old when he went missing during the German Spring Offensive of 1918, in the area just to the South of Ypres, in Belgium.
His body was never identified and he is named on the Ploegsteert Memorial (or "Plug Street" as it was more commonly known to the British tommies).
