Selling to the Council explained at free business event
As one of the biggest employers in the district and provider of over 100 services to over 147,000 people, there is a lot of opportunity for local businesses to sell Harrogate Borough Council their products and services
As the council wishes to raise awareness of those opportunities for local businesses, a free event is being held on Monday, 28 November 2005 at
5.45 pm in the Calder room at the Pavilions of Harrogate.
Those local businesses that attend will be asked the question 'are you ready to do business with the council'.
Councillor Mike Gardner, Leader of the Council, said:
"The government has set us a number of targets to achieve efficient and effective procurement practices.
And we need to create an atmosphere where our spending power can bring the right benefits to the local business community.
We are seeking to do this by actively engaging with a diverse range of suppliers and that doesn't always mean that biggest is best.
"It is recognised that it is often the small to medium sized business that can provide best value and that can often mean those smaller companies which are based locally.
This in turn helps retain the spend locally for the benefit of the district's business community.
I hope that many of these businesses will attend this free event to learn more about how we plan to make our purchasing contracts more accessible to them."
Speakers at the event will cover the council's commitment to small businesses, case studies of local businesses working with the council and they will also offer help on how to ensure businesses are ready to sell their products and services to their local authority and where they can get more information about the council's procurement strategies.
