Clinical Waste Disposal

Clinical Waste Disposal

The Council provides a pre-arranged collection for clinical waste generated by  residents receiving treatment in their own home. Referrals are made via the local Health Care Trust. Anyone receiving treatment at home with queries about clinical waste disposal should firstly ask the attending nursing staff (who would normally carry out an assessment on the risks with disposal of the waste).  If clinical waste is generated (which needs secure and separate disposal) the resident will be provided with information from the local Health Care Trust and Harrogate Council about collection arrangements. Please note it may take several days for the service to commence. Residents should speak to their attending nursing staff or GP with queries in the first instance. However if the resident is unable to confirm arrangements with the nursing staff queries may be raised through the Council’s Customer Services Team on 0845 300 6091, who will contact the designated waste officer for further advice.

Residents may also generate healthcare waste in their homes (i.e.  incontinence pads) where there is no health risk. Where residents believe they may require additional assistance (i.e. extra containers/bags) for this type of waste they should contact the Council’s Customer Services Team on 0845 300 6091 who will contact the designated waste officer for further advice and assistance. Any resident requiring safe disposal of sharps should contact their own GP service for advice on safe disposal.
