The Leader is appointed by the Council at the annual meeting. From the meeting on 20 May 2011, the Leader is now appointed for a four year term or until the councillor ceases to be a member of the council, if that is earlier. (Cabinet Members are appointed by the Leader and formally endorsed by the council)
