28 May 2008:   A resident of Harrogate district has won a marathon without leaving the gym. Twenty-nine year old, Simon Margot, from Pateley Bridge achieved this unusual record in a specially created treadmill challenge organised by the Brimhams' fitness team at Harrogate Borough Council and sport wear specialists Up and Running of Harrogate.

Simon 'ran' the 26.2 miles in just 2hrs 53 minutes.   His prize is a pair of running shoes and a gait analysis provided by Up and Running.

Andy Hawkswell, Assistant Manager at the Hydro who led on the challenge that was open to all members of the Brimhams' Fitness Centres in Harrogate, Pateley Bridge and Ripon, said:   "This challenge is a lot of fun and is an excellent way to promote fitness.   It also provides a very clear message about looking after your body and being properly prepared when taking on high impact sporting activity.   This is the second year running we have held this challenge and I would like to thank Up and Running for their continued support."
