Public consultation on play area in Valley Gardens, Harrogate
DATE RELEASE ISSUED:

VALLEY GARDENS PLAY AREA TO GET A REVAMP
Harrogate Borough Council's Parks Team has started consulting on proposals to give a £160,000 makeover to the ever-popular children's play area within the Valley Gardens.
Staff will be in the Valley Gardens play area on Saturday, 15 November between 10.00 am and 2.30 pm for this first phase consultation and would like to hear from parents and children as well anyone else with an interest in the play area.
Councillor Pat Jones, Cabinet Member for Cultural Services, hopes people will give their views on what they would like to see included.
She said:
"This is a huge pot of money and we want to spend it wisely.
I should add that this money comes from funds created by contributions made from developers and is earmarked purely to develop play opportunities within the play area, not for any other part of the Gardens.
"We have nearly 60 play areas in the district and the Valley Gardens remains one of the most popular.
Gone are the days when it was just slides, swings and seesaws, children want things that are fun and challenging.
So we want to hear their thoughts and those of their parents too on what should be included."
Following the first consultation, plans and designs will be drawn up for further consultation in February with the hope that the enhancements and new equipment will
be in place ready for the summer holidays. ENDS
If anyone would like to contribute to the consultation but can't be in the Gardens on 15 November, they can telephone Kate Dawson, Parks Development Officer on 01423 841037 or email kate.dawson@harrogate.gov.uk
