2009 Centenary Grant Project
Cash for talented young people
Opening   5 January closes 2 February 2009
 
ASPIRING sporting stars and artistes of the future are being invited to apply for a grant from Harrogate Borough Council's 2009 Centenary Grant Project.   This project was set up by the council to celebrate its centenary in 1984, many talented young people have benefited from this fund since then.
 
The council is seeking nominations from sporting or artistic young people who are 18 or under and resident in the Harrogate district who compete or work at a regional level.
 
Since the awards started in 1984, over 500 talented individuals have benefited with many young participants going on to compete at a national level.   Last year 33 talented individuals received grants totalling £3,500 the youngest recipients being two 11 year olds.   The disciplines ranged from singing to Down Hill Mountain Biking.   All eligible young residents are urged to make an application.
 
Application forms for this year's grants can be obtained from Heads of PE or Musical Departments in local schools as well as libraries, local leisure centres or from Leilah Vyner, Project Development Officer, Department of Community Services   at Harrogate Borough Council on 01423 556702.
 
Forms will be available from January 2009 and must be returned to Leilah Vyner at Harrogate Borough Council by 2 February 2009.
