Council tax information 2011/12
 
 
As of 21 February 2011 there were 69,859 domestic dwellings in the Harrogate district from which the revenues and benefits service collects some £96.6m.
 
The basic band D council tax is £1,543.69 and is made up of four elements:

 
£1,057.48 for the North Yorkshire County Council Services
 
£219.56 for Harrogate Borough Council Services
 
£204.55 for North Yorkshire Police Services
 
£62.10 for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services

The basic band D tax is higher in parishes which have chosen to levy a precept.  These taxes range from £1,543.69 to £1,599.91 giving an average tax across the District of £1,558.57.   Here is a full schedule of total taxes by parish (pdf format, link opens in new window) .
 
The budget for services to be provided by Harrogate Borough Council in 2011-12 is £22,037,000
 
The council tax leaflet (pdf format, link opens in new window), is published in March each year and sent out with the council tax and non-domestic rates bills. It gives information on how the bill has been arrived at, details of the council's spending on services for the coming year and how much of this spending is met by the council tax or from redistributed non-domestic rates.
