Council awards arts' grants in 2009 to local community groups

LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS RECEIVE ARTS' GRANTS
Community groups and arts' organisation around the Harrogate district are to benefit from funding through Harrogate Borough Council arts' scheme.
This is the fourth year running the council has offered this funding and this year £27,000 has been allocated.
Lois Toyne, the council's Museums, Arts and Strategy Officer, says the aim is to assist groups within the district to develop new and innovative projects and also to support important community festivals and events.
She said:
"In addition to grant aiding Harrogate International Festival and Harrogate Theatre, the council includes this budget provision to support a number of smaller organisations which provide a range of cultural and arts activities and opportunities across the district."
Grants for 2009/10 have been awarded as follows
:
Ripon Festival £4090; Ripon International Festival £2450; Harrogate Competitive Festival for Music, Speech and Drama £5500; Rural Arts ON Tour £1500; Northern Aldborough Festival £1500; Knaresborough Festival of Entertainment and Visual Arts £1550; Nidderdale Festival £1550; Knaresborough/Bebra Town Twinning £550; Knaresborough Bed Race £550 and Ripon Film Society £100.
A further £7700 is allocated to the Small Arts and Heritage Grant Fund, which is open to applications from community groups across the district.
