£55,000 play and exercise area opens in Boroughbridge

A brand new play and exercise area for teenagers in Boroughbridge is being opened on 25 August.
The new equipment is designed especially for older children and teenagers.
This £55,000 facility on the Boroughbridge Recreation Ground has been jointly funded by Harrogate Borough Council using £42,000 of money provided by developers who can't provide play facilities on their sites, a £3000 parish grant from Boroughbridge Town Council and a £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
The new equipment includes a 30m zip wire, a large climbing frame, rodeo board, altima climbing pole, aeroskate, cycle ramps and cycle exercise equipment with rowing machine and horizontal bars.
A new teen shelter is also being provided to give the young people of Boroughbridge somewhere to hang out.
Councillor Richard Cooper, Harrogate Council's Cabinet Member for Cultural Services praised the partnership between Boroughbridge Town Council, Harrogate District Council and students from Boroughbridge High School who have helped develop plans for this site.
He said:
"It's great that we are able to provide even more facilities for teenagers in Boroughbirdge.
We already know from what they have told us that they are going to enjoy having their own space in the town.
"The majority of the costs of this facility have been provided as a requirement under this council's planning policies.
This means that developers have to put a sum aside which is ring fenced by the council to provide schemes like this.
This scheme, therefore isn't costing the taxpayer a penny."
