Five new affordable homes officially opened in Rainton
30 September 2009
When Rainton Parish Council published its Parish Plan in 2003, they identified a need for ten new affordable homes by 2013.
The first five are now complete.
Since the production of the Parish Plan, Parish Councillors have been working with Accent Foundation and Harrogate Borough Council to help deliver this housing need for the people of Rainton.
Three affordable homes for rent and two for shared ownership have been provided on Stevenson View, Church Lane.
Councillor Jean Butterfield, Harrogate Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, said:
"If we are to keep our villages and rural areas alive, it is vital that small developments such as this continue to offer local people the opportunity of staying in the villages they grew up in, helping to keep schools open and services running.
"Rainton is typical of villages across the district, where young people in particular are moving out in their droves because they simply cannot afford to stay.
Hopefully, for years to come, Stevenson Close will play its part in giving local people the choice. And the benefit is that these homes will remain affordable in perpetuity."
