Children swim in Pateley Bridge in memory of Simon Goldsborough
30 September 2009
This year's inter-schools' swimming gala at Nidderdale Pool is to be dedicated to Simon Goldsborough.
A keen local sportsman from Pateley Bridge, Simon was just 27 when he lost his life to cancer.
As part of their pledge to support sporting activities in the Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale area in Simon's memory, the Simon Goldsborough Foundation has donated the Nidderdale Inter-schools' cup.
120 pupils from six local primary schools will be competing on 7 October.
All the schools entered in the gala swim within the council's schools' swimming scheme.
They include:
St Cuthberts (Pateley Bridge), Glasshouses, Dacre Braithwaite, Fountains Earth Primary (Lofthouse), Fountains School (Grantley) and Kettlesing/Felliscllife.
Cath Brockhill, Duty Manager at Nidderdale Pool and Leisure Centre, says there is plenty of room for spectators.
"We love to see mums and dads and all members of the family coming along to cheer on their little ones.
This event is always great fun for children, the schools and the centre staff.
This year, we are honoured to be doing something to remember Simon."
