Volunteers wanted for Harrogate's Valley Gardens

Volunteers wanted for Harrogate's Valley Gardens

6 October 2009

Harrogate's Valley Gardens, which has just been chosen by Britain in Bloom as the 'Best Public Park' in the country, was the first park in Harrogate to have a 'Friends' Group'.    Harrogate Council's parks team is now looking to attract more volunteers as the Group is to be re-launched.

The Valley Gardens has been the focus of increased public support recently with the opening of the new £180,000 play area.   The council has a number of plans to make further improvements and wants to create opportunities for more residents to get involved in this work.

A public meeting is being held on Wednesday, 14 October 2009 at 7.00 pm in the Sun Pavilion, entrance off Cornwall Road, to which all interested residents are invited.

Councillor Richard Cooper, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Parks and Open Spaces said: "Who wouldn't want to be involved with the best public park in the country?   The Valley Gardens is officially the best but we need everybody - young and old and those somewhere in between to ensure it continues to be the pride of our green heritage."
