Mobile recycling service trial in Knaresborough
7October 2009
A manned mobile recycling service is being trialled in Knaresborough from
13 October 2009 for residents where Harrogate Council finds it difficult to reach their properties with a kerb side collection service.
The trial will take place on alternate Tuesdays in Knaresborough Market Square between 7.00 am and 10.00 am on 13 and 27 October, 10 and
24 November and 8 and 22 December 2009.
Councillor Michael Harrison, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, says that this extra provision to collect domestic material suitable for recycling is part of on-going work to improve recycling facilities across the district.
He said:
"Knaresborough has a traditional and much admired town centre which adds to its charm and attraction for visitors.
But it does mean that we have difficulty providing a kerb site recycling service to some of the ginnels and narrower streets.
"We know that many of these households do take their recycling material to one of the local mini bring sites and we hope that this new facility will make life easier for them and encourage others to start to recycle.
I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all residents in the district who recognise the importance of recycling."
After the initial trial, Harrogate Borough Council will review the results and take into account customer feedback before considering making it permanent.
If successful, the council's plan is to provide mobile recycling facilities in other hard to reach areas of the district.
