Dangerous, Exotic or Wild Animals Licence

No person may keep any dangerous wild animal (of a certain species) without first obtaining a licence from us.

The application form must be sent to us with the £446 fee, including the initial Vet inspection fee of £192. This licence lasts 2 years. A Council authorised veterinary surgeon will carry out an inspection and we may then issue the licence in line with the Vet's report . A Vet inspection is carried out every 2 years.

The renewal licence fee is £253. This renewal licence lasts 2 years. Another Vet inspection will be carried out and we may then issue the renewal licence in line with the Vet's report. This Vet fee will be the actual cost of the previous years Vet inspection fee, plus inflation.

What animals require a licence?

The animals that require a licence are listed in the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 (Modification) Order 2008 which can be viewed on the Office for Public Sector Information website.
