Dog Breeding Licence

A breeding establishment means any premises where five or more litters are produced for sale in a year. No person/s may keep a breeding establishment without first obtaining a licence from us.

Apply for a licence

Fill in the dog breeding licence application form and send this to us with a £116 fee.

Within the year the licence is granted, that licence will expire on the 31st December. The licence must be renewed before the expiry date if the premises is to continue as a dog breeding establishment.

Issuing a licence

A licence may be issued if the applicant is not disqualified under any of the following Acts:

• The Breeding of Dogs Act 1973 viewed on the Office of Public Sector Information website. 
  
• The Pet Animals Act 1951 viewed on the Office of Public Sector Information website.
