Horse Riding Establishment Licence

A riding establishment is a business that keeps horses to let them out for hire for riding or riding instruction.

Apply for a licence

Fill in the horse riding establishment application form and send it to us with the appropriate fee:

1 - 10 horses £192 per annum plus costs of veterinary inspection
11 - 20 horses £219 per annum plus costs of veterinary inspection
21 or more horses £254 per annum plus costs of veterinary inspection

Within the year the licence is granted, that licence will expire on the 31st December. The licence must be renewed before the expiry date if the premises is to continue as a horse riding establishment.

The council will arrange for the inspection of horses and premises by a veterinary surgeon to ensure the welfare of the animals and that the accommodation is suitable.

How long will it take to receive the licence?

Complaints

If there are any complaints or appeals on the licence you should contact us for advice.

We would always advise that you should complain first to the trader, preferably in the form of a letter (with proof of delivery). If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK, Consumer Direct will give you advice. From outside the UK, contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
