Zoo Licence

Any establishment where wild animals are kept for exhibition to the public, other than for the purposes of a circus or a pet shop, requires a licence from us.
 
Apply for a licence

Two months before making an application, a notification of intention (opens in a new window) found on the DEFRA website, should be sent to us.

You must publish notice of intention in one local newspaper and one national newspaper two months before the application.

A zoo licence application form must be sent to us with a £262.00 fee, plus any vet fees incurred during the period of the licence. This licence lasts for 4 years.

A zoo licence renewal application form must be sent to us with £262.00 fee, plus any vet fees incurred during the period of the licence. This licence will last 6 years.

How long will it take to receive the licence?

You can expect to hear from us normally within 60 days.
