Throughout the summer months, Harrogate Borough Council's tenants and leaseholders have been sending in their top household, cooking and gardening tips.   Twelve have been chosen one for each month of next year's tenants' calendar.

This calendar is used to keep council tenants informed on housing services and key dates in the year.

As well as mouth-watering recipes, there are top tips on how to make tiles and glass sparkle and lots of advice on how to make the best of gardens, flowers and vegetable growing.

Councillor Mrs Pat Jones, Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate, welcomed the winners into the Mayor's Parlour on 26 October to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to offer good and expert advice to other tenants.

The Mayor added.   "This is such a lovely calendar and I wished I had had such tips readily available to me when I was a new wife and homemaker.

"As well as giving the calendar to all tenants and leaseholders, it will also form part of a Welcome to Your New Home box that our housing staff will provide to new tenants.   We asked new tenants what information they would find useful and what little things would have eased them into their new home."

The Welcome Pack for new tenants includes toilet rolls, energy efficient light bulbs, bin bags, anti-bacterial wipes, pen and notepad and a dustpan and brush.

The judges in the calendar competition were Amy Brown, Tenant Involvement Officer, Sheila Bell, Premises Officer and Mike Middleton, Parks Technical Officer.   The winners are:

January - Barbara Wood with a recipe for lemon curd
February - Mrs Christine Feingold how to make your ericaceous plants grow well
