Vote for Ripon's Spa Gardens in campaign to find best of the Green Flag Parks 7 Dec 09

Fans of Ripon's beautiful award winning Spa Gardens are urging everyone to vote for them in the country's first ever 'Best of the Green Flag Parks' award.
This latest campaign, to tell the country about its top parks, has been set up by the Tidy Britain Group who run the Green Flag awards in partnership with
GreenSpace, and BTCV.
Ripon's Spa Gardens was the only winner of a Green Flag in Yorkshire and Humber in 2001. Although other parks in the region have now attained Green Flag status, none can match Ripon's Spa Gardens which this year received its ninth consecutive Green Flag award.
The Green Flag judges look for parks and open spaces which have a high quality landscape, are welcoming, safe, clean and well maintained, as well as those, which are sustainable and also involve the local community.
Patrick Kilburn, Harrogate Borough Council's Head of Parks and Open Spaces, is right behind the campaign to have the Spa Gardens voted best of the best.
He said:
"Many local people have given up their time to work with us via such groups as the Ripon Spa Gardens forum and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank them for their support and effort.
These Gardens may only be small but they are very important to the people of Ripon and, of course, the city's many visitors.
"I have urged my family and friends to vote for them and I hope other residents of Ripon and wider Harrogate district will too."
