How can I get involved in shaping future Planning Policy?
We are currently reviewing much of our planning policy and hope that you will join in the debate!

What is Planning Policy and Guidance?

We use Planning Policy and Guidance as a means to manage the development and conservation of Harrogate District.   The Council develop many planning policies in consultation with the community.

If you submit a planning application for development, it will be determined using current planning policy and guidance.

So, what makes up Planning Policy and Guidance?

There are 3 elements to Planning Policy and Guidance for Harrogate District:

1. The Development Plan, comprising:

2. Local Planning and Design Guidance
The Council has local planning and design guidance to help applicants and developers use some of the Development Plan policies.
 
3. National Planning Policy
Planning applications must also be considered against national planning policy.

Why does the Council have a Local Plan and a Local Development Framework?

At the moment, the planning system is going through changes that will replace the Local Plan with a Local Development Framework (LDF).
