£165,000 for new play areas in Ripon for 2010 25 Jan 2010

Plans to improve play opportunities in Ripon are moving forward following consultation with local children, parents and schools.
Harrogate Borough Council has just completed a £36,000 replacement of play equipment at Paddies Park on St Magdalens Road, work is now underway on a natural play space at Quarry Moor Park and plans are progressing for improvements to the play area in Spa Park.
The borough council's play development and open space officers worked with pupils from St Wilfrid's School to decide on what should be provided at Paddies Park.
The new equipment includes a zig zag twister
a set of toddler swings, a nest swing for all ages, a roundabout, an overhead rotator and a large climbing frame known as the Admiral's Lookout which, along with a 'crow's nest', has lots of ropes to climb and levels to sit on.
Funding of £50,000 for the new natural space play area at Quarry Moor has come from North Yorkshire County Council via a Playbuilder grant from the Department of Children, Schools and Families.
The county, borough and city council are working together to provide this natural play space for 8 to 13 year old children.
Following consultation open days and exhibitions, the final design has been approved by the Aldermen Spence Trust which maintains the site.
Contractors, Playdale, started on site earlier this month and work is expected to be completed by the end of February.
There will be mounds and tunnels to explore and equipment will include a jungle climber, an aerial runway, a variety of swings and a challenging trail.
The play area at Spa Park will also see major investment and improvement this year too.
A Playbuilder grant of £49,000 has been topped up with £30,000 by Harrogate Borough Council.
Proposals for this £79,000 project are currently being worked on before consultation with local children.
It is hoped that this work will be completed by the end of December.
