Swimming and Spa Pool Hygiene

Swimming and Spa Pool Hygiene

Nidderdale Swimming Pool In order to protect public health, we monitor pool water quality in most swimming pools and spa pools within the Harrogate District. This is done through a planned sampling programme to assess microbiological quality. This helps to maintain standards and where necessary take appropriate action.

A guide to the health and safety of pool users and staff in swimming and spa pools booklet (opens in a new window) (PDF, 218KB) has been created for employers or others in charge of operating pools and is provided as guidance on some legal requirements.

What can you do to keep the swimming pool you use clean?

  • DON'T SWIM IF YOU HAVE HAD SYMPTOMS OF A STOMACH UPSET IN THE LAST 48 HOURS
  • Shower prior to entering the pool
  • Don't wear outdoor shoes on the pool side
  • Wash your hands after the toilet, and before you enter the pool
  • Ensure babies and children who are not toilet trained wear swimming nappies whilst in the pool
