Pupils 'draw' out dangerous parking in Ripon 10 Feb 2010

Primary schoolchildren in Ripon are 'drawing out' dangerous parking outside their school gates.
Drawings produced by pupils from Ripon's Holy Trinity Church of England Infant and Junior Schools and St Wilfrids Catholic Primary School highlighting their ideas for safe parking habits have been turned into posters and other road safety literature.
The Harrogate District Safer Communities Partnership Road
Safety Group is behind this initiative aimed at reminding parents of the consequences of dangerous parking outside schools.
North Yorkshire Police and sponsors Sainsburys in Ripon have chosen one winning poster from each school.
This road safety signage will be displayed on the front boundary walls of all three schools.
The Road Safety Group is also producing flyers, which include the winning posters and useful information about keeping children safe outside school gates.
Copies will be sent to all parents.
North Yorkshire Police will be clamping down on motorists who continue to disobey the road markings.

"This is a very worthwhile initiative and we hope that parents will listen to their children.
These designs are very striking and provide a valuable message.
Small children and parked cars outside school gates just don't mix.
The road markings are there for very good reasons and we want everyone to take heed of them."
