Harrogate Tourist Information Centre welcomes its one-millionth visitors 27 Apr 2010

19 April 2010

A first time visitor to Harrogate has become the one-millionth visitor to the town's Tourist Information Centre since it moved to its fully accessible position within the Royal Baths building in 2001.

As well as the usual warm welcome with lots of help and advice from staff, Mrs Jennifer Hill of Cambridge also received champagne, flowers, Harrogate Spa water, toffee and other souvenirs as well as a certificate to record this tourist milestone.

"This is the first time I have been to Harrogate, said Mrs Hill.   "My husband and I had registered at the Cedar Court Hotel where we were staying for three nights and wanted to quickly get out and about to explore the town and surrounding areas.   So where better place to start than the Tourist Information Centre.   And what a welcome we got.   We think Harrogate is a lovely town with a lot to offer tourists."

Note to Editors :   Yorkshire is the fastest-growing tourist destination in the UK with thousands of visitors contributing billions of pounds into the economy.

Last year Yorkshire tourism saw an increase of 31% in visitor numbers and an increase of 13% in visitor spend, bringing this figure up to an estimated £744m.
