Food establishments in Harrogate district get Scores on the Doors 16 July 2010
16 July 2010
All restaurant and food premises serving the public in the Harrogate district have now been awarded a star rating on the basis of the outcome of the last programmed inspection made by Harrogate Borough Council's Environmental Health Officers.
Nearly 1200 businesses that prepare food, direct to the public, including restaurants, cafes, pubs, fish and chip and sandwich shops, takeaways and schools, have been given scores in relation to food hygiene and safety, cleanliness and standard of premises and quality of management and staff training.
Star ratings range from five for excellence and down to zero where major improvements are required.
Premises scoring between five and two will be issued with a certificate showing their star rating, which can be displayed in their premises.
Councillor Les Ellington, Cabinet Member for Public Protection and Rural Affairs for Harrogate Borough Council said:
"This award is about improving standards in any premises where food is prepared and in providing confidence to the public.
Visitors who are aware of schemes in other towns have been asking when our scheme would start.
"We can't insist on premises displaying their certificate showing their score but we hope they will.
However, customers can text Scores on the Doors and put in the name of the establishment when they will be sent a text back with the establishment's star rating."
