Come and play on 4 August 2010 in the Valley Gardens to celebrate National Playday
20 July 2010
On National Playday (4 August) and throughout the summer of 2010, thousands of children, young people and communities will get out to play at hundreds of locally organised events across the UK.
The theme for this year's National Playday on Wednesday, 4 August is 'Our Place' and is all about giving children spaces and places to play.
Locally, Harrogate Borough Council's play development officer is going to make sure that children and their parents get the chance to play together at a spectacular event being held in the Valley Gardens between 11.00 am and 4.00pm.
The day will be packed full of exciting and stimulating activities including free
pitch and putt and crazy golf
There's going to be a mobile skate park; cub karts; bungee trampolines; tree climbing; model boating; laser combat; archery, fairground rides, and much much more.
There will be a small charge for some of the bigger attractions but all providers have promised to make a donation to the Mayor's charities which include Age Concern Knaresborough and ORB.
Other attractions will be free of charge.
The day is being organised by the council's play development officer, Jane Whittaker who is extremely grateful for all the support she is getting from the local community to make sure it goes with a swing.
She said:
"We know that parents live very busy lives and that finding time to play with their children is sometimes difficult.
"That is why we are putting on this special event to let them see how many play opportunities there are in our district and how important it is for them to let their hair down and play with their children.
Together, families can enjoy making dens, arts and crafts with the play workers or make up a family team to have a go at sports activities as well as having a go on some of the attractions.
There really is something for everyone.
We want to see the Valley Gardens packed out with parents, carers and children.
Bring the grandparents or the godparents we don't mind.
There's room for the whole family so get the date in the diary, 4 August 2010."
This year's event has attracted more stands and stalls giving parents information on a range of activities ranging from party ideas, to what is available at Children Centres, the Family Information Service and Harrogate Library.
A classic fire engine along with the 4Youth van, burger
and ice cream vans will all be there.
Refreshments will be available at the Magnesia Well Café and ice creams can also be bought from the hut.
Plans for the permanent skatepark proposed for the Valley Gardens will also be on display.
