Funding available for 2010 round of grants for arts and heritage projects
As
well as providing annual financial support for major cultural events in the Harrogate district, Harrogate Borough Council has a funding stream to help small arts and heritage projects.
The Arts and Heritage Grant scheme was first set up in 2006.
The council is pleased to announce that this funding will continue in 2010 and is now seeking applications for a grant.
Councillor Anthony Alton, Cabinet Member for Cultural Services, confirms that the council is keen to support this sector of the district.
He said:
"A review carried out in 2006 into the way we offer financial support showed that events and organisations in smaller towns and rural areas were desperately in need of a local funding stream.
That is why we set up this Arts and Heritage fund, which has been very well received across the district.
"This district is home to many events that encourage people to get involved in cultural and heritage projects and volunteers organise a great number of them.
We want to help them through this round of funding to continue their good work which brings pleasure to many right across our district as well as encouraging others from outside to visit us."
Last year, grants were awarded to community groups around the district including equipment for a silver band in Lofthouse, an information leaflet for Kirby Hill church, funding for local archaeology in Boroughbridge, an artist in residence in Nidderdale and to support rural theatre in various villages.
Applications can be made from 1 September to 1 October 2010.
Grants are a maximum of £1000 per application and are intended to help community groups within the Harrogate district to develop new and innovative projects.
