Steering new drivers to safer driving

Steering new drivers to safer driving

New drivers may be qualified to drive but are they safe?   The Harrogate District Community Safety Partnership's Road Safety Group is holding its fifth event for newly qualified drivers and for those soon to be taking their test.

This free event is aimed at making sure that as they gain experience as drivers, they have the chance to extend their knowledge beyond lessons and a test pass and to reduce the incidence of traffic collisions.

This free event, being held at 7pm on Tuesday 14 September 2010 at Harrogate Fire Station on Skipton Road, involves a number of partners including North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue services, road safety officers, North Yorkshire County Council, Helen Dickinson Driving Training, Harrogate Auto Electrics and the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

The evening will include six fifteen minute workshops: hazard perception; car maintenance and what to look for when purchasing your first vehicle; looking for faults on a vehicle; brake reaction test; legislative issues and a seat belt sled.

These will be followed by a road traffic collision demonstration, showing the resources that are taken to rescue somebody from a vehicle that has been involved in an accident.

There will be a prizes and free giveaways.
