The council has recently restructured its departments and reduced them from seven to five.

 

This will make it easier to meet government targets particularly on providing on-line services. It also cuts staffing costs.

 

Details of the new departments are set out below:

 

Many local government services in this area are however provided by the North Yorkshire County Council, in particular, education, social services, highways, transport, libraries and trading Standards.

 

The Chief Executive is responsible for overall management. All staff are accountable to him an d directors report to him.

 

The Chief Executive reports to the Leader, the Cabinet and the council depending on the issue.

 

The Chief Executive also has specific responsibilities for emergency planning and civil protection, and is the Returning Officer for local and parliamentary elections.
