Fridges and Freezers
To help limit damage to the environment, the Council offers a low cost chargeable service for the collection of fridges and freezers. This service is offered to domestic customers only. We cannot remove fridges and freezers from commercial properties and cannot remove very large, cabinet style fridge-freezers.
How much does this service cost?
This service is chargeable. The current cost is £29.50 for up to two items. However, if you are in receipt of certain benefits, the service is free. (The Council may undertake a check to confirm that you are in receipt of qualifying benefits).
Is there a cost free alternative?
Yes, if the items are in reasonable condition, you could consider donating them to Essential Needs who operate a re-use scheme. As well as fridges and freezers, they can take other white goods, items of furniture and small household items such as bedding, curtains, electrical items etc.
Or you can take your domestic refrigeration appliances to one of the Civic Amenity sites (tips) in the District, where there are facilities for the proper disposal of fridges and freezers.
How do I organise a collection?
If your items are not suitable for Essential Needs, please telephone 0845 300 6091
You may pay for this service using a credit or debit card when you telephone.
If you are in receipt of benefits our customer service advisors will let you know if you qualify for a free collection.
Please ensure that the fridge/freezer is:
- made safe so children cannot get inside
- of normal domestic size
- cleared of all contents
- placed outside prior to collection as instructed
