Provision of civic amenity sites, known as Household Waste Recycling Centres, may be used by local residents (usually free of charge) and businesses (usually charged). The sites provide facilities for the collection and recycling of all household and garden waste other than anything which may be considered as hazardous and requiring special treatment.
There are three Household Waste Recycling Centres in the Harrogate district.
The sites offer facilities for the following:
- plastic bottles
- green waste
- rubble and hardcore
- fridges and freezers
- large and small electrical appliances
- scrap metal
- telephone directories
- textiles and shoes
- wood and timber
- batteries (including car batteries)
- used engine oil
- fluorescent tubes
- gas bottles
- Christmas trees
- asbestos (Wetherby Road only)
We are closed every Wednesday, and on 25, 26 December and 1 January. Opening times at all three sites are as follows:
- March 08:30 to 17:00
- April - September 08:30 to 19:00
- October 08:30 to 17:00
- November - February 08:30 to 16:00
Disposal of commercial waste is the responsibility of the business owner. North Yorkshire County Council provides sites which are chargeable and there are reduced charges for recyclable materials. The sites are at Harrogate (Stonefall) and Northallerton (Yafforth Road).
