Following extensive consultation, our Homelessness Strategy was approved by the Council's Cabinet on 23 July 2008.

The Homelessness Act 2002 requires all local authorities to undertake a Homelessness Review and publish a Homelessness Strategy, at least every five years.

Our Homelessness Strategy 2008 - 2013 focuses on five strategic priority areas:

  1. Reducing homelessness through prevention
  2. Reducing the use of and improving the standard of temporary accommodation
  3. Reducing the incidence of youth homelessness
  4. Improving access to support agencies
  5. Increasing the supply of affordable housing

The Strategy is supported by a detailed Action Plan that explains how we are going to deliver on our commitments. In partnership with all the councils in North Yorkshire, a countywide homelessness strategy has been developed. This was approved by the North Yorkshire Strategic Housing Board on 16 June 2008.
