There is a need for affordable housing across all areas of the District.

This is shown by the Harrogate District 2006 Housing Needs Assessment, which identifies the number of households who are in unsuitable housing and who need to move to solve their housing problems but who cannot afford to rent or buy even at the lowest market prices. In total, there is a need for 830 additional affordable homes each year from 2006-2011 and 294 of these are needed in rural areas.
