Microchipping

Harrogate Borough Councils Dog Warden Service is working together with the Dogs Trust to provide a dog microchipping service to any dog owner.

Microchipping is used to encourage responsible dog ownership and to reduce the number of stray dogs within the Harrogate District.

The microchip is the size of a grain of rice and is inserted between the shoulder blades of the dog. It contains information about the dog and its owner which is stored on a national database.

If you require your dog to be microchipped please contact the Dog Warden Service on 01423 556633 or complete the online reporting form to make an appointment.

How much does it cost?

If you are in receipt of any benefits (this includes child benefit) then the microchipping service is currently free. If you are not in receipt of any benefits then a fee of £12.50 is payable.

For further information about dog microchipping please visit the Dogs Trust website.

Does my dog need a collar and tag?

By law dogs must wear a collar and tag with ownership details at all times even if they are microchipped. By putting a collar and identification tag on your dog you are not only complying with the law but enabling someone to return your dog to you more quickly and potentially without any cost to you.
