Overpayment Of Council Tax Benefit
What is an overpayment?
An overpayment of benefit happens when benefit is paid to
which you are not entitled. This may happen if there is a change in
your circumstances which means you will be entitled to less
benefit. Examples of such changes are:
- an increase in earned or unearned
income of yourself or other adults in the household
- increase in capital
- someone moving into or out of your
home
How will I know if I have got an overpayment?
We will write to you giving full details of the overpayment
including what has caused it, the amount, the
dates of the overpayment and what to do if you disagree with it. If
we are going to ask you to pay back the overpayment we will write
to you and advise how this will be
done.
