Sport England invests in projects which help people start, stay and succeed in sport.

There are two funding streams community and national.

COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

If you are looking for a grant of between £500 and £5000, you should apply to the Awards for All grants programme.

Decisions about Sport England funding (grants over £5000) are made locally by the nine regional sports boards. Eligible projects will be assessed against the priorities laid out in each REGION'S SPORTS PLAN AND THE national Framework for Sport.

Sport England Yorkshire has been allocated £7,047,000, from the Sport England Community Investment Fund, to distribute over the next five years.

The Yorkshire Sports Board has, based upon the priorities of the regional plan for sport, decided how it proposes to invest £7million to help deliver the outcomes of the plan:

The board has allocated £600,000 per year over the next five years. The priorities and criteria to access this funding are set out below.

All projects must be able to show that they will significantly increase participation in sport and active recreation in a sustainable way that is; new participants will stay playing sport and being physically active for the long term.

Priority will be given to those projects that:

Take on the challenge of dealing with inequalities in sport and significantly narrow the participation gap for priority groups. (Note: the target is to close the participation gap between these groups and the regional average by 25% by 2008).
Will have a significant amount of partnership money to deliver the project. (Note: it is anticipated that the Community Investment Fund will help secure funding rather than being the main funder of projects.)
Focus on those sports and organisations that offer the best return on investment; that is projects that get more people involved in sport for each £1 invested from the Community Investment Fund.
Are part of a strategic approach to delivering sport and active recreation at a local level.

Project types:
Types of projects that we would support are:

>Projects that encourage a partnership approach between sport, education, health and the community to plan and deliver more and better opportunities for people to start, stay and succeed in sport and active recreation.
>Projects that will significantly increase and extend the use of community facilities, green spaces and recreation routes for sport and active recreation.
>Projects that create new multi-activity clubs at the heart of local communities that provide a range of opportunities to play sport and become physically active.

Timescales:
Applications will be considered in rounds with a maximum of £200,000 being allocated to each round. These are:

Round 1
Applications will be accepted during July 2004 (closing date July 312004). The Regional Sports Board will make its decisions on this round by 27 September 2004. Decisions will be made on all of the applications received for this round within 12 weeks.

Round 2
Applications will be accepted during October 2004 (closing date 31 October 2004). The Regional Sports Board will make its decisions on this round by 20 December 2004

Round 3
Applications will be accepted during February 2005 (closing date 28th February 2005). The Regional Sports Board will make their decisions on this round by 23rd May 2005

How to get funding	The steps you take	What Sport England will do
Step 1 You have a project idea	Tell us about your project idea: You can submit your project details online using the enquiry form available at: www.sportengland.org/funding or You can phone to discuss your idea on 08458 508 508	You will receive instant feedback about eligibility and basic project suitability. If your project is not suitable for Sport England funding we will tall you why and direct you to relevant sources of information or to other more suitable organisations. If your project is suitable for funding, we will send you initial guidance notes to help you develop your project.
Step 2 Your appear suitable for funding	Submit additional supporting information: The online enquiry form lists the additional information required. Send it to Sport England. Telephone enquiries: You will be sent a letter listing the additional information that's required. Send it to Sport England.	We aim to process this information within 15 working days of receipt. If Sport England is interested in your project, we will use this information to prepare an Applicant's Statement. To help you develop your project further, we will send you relevant guidance notes for your project.
Step 3 You are ready to apply	Send in your request for funding: Check the details on the Applicant's Statement and sign it. Send the statement and your project plans to Sport England.	The Applicant's Statement and project plans will be reviewed and a decision on funding your project will be made. We aim to do this within 12 weeks. We will notify you of the decision in writing.

National Investment

We are investing £130 million in 30 key sports. This investment is distributed in conjunction with the national governing bodies plus a range of national partners. There are 10 English priority sports, 10 UK/GB priority sports and 10 English development/world class sports.
