Located approximately 1.5 miles to the north of Harrogate, the Harrogate Borough Council area of this woodland, measuring approximately 68 acres, is comprised of mixed evergreen and deciduous woodland. The woodland does however stretch much further than the 68 acres of council owned land and actually goes on to link Harrogate with Knaresborough. Access to the site in Harrogate can be made directly off
Bilton Lane via the Public Right of Way (PROW).

| Information boards are located at the entrance to the site off Bilton Lane, Harrogate. These information boards will offer guidance on site walks, and the flora and fauna that you would expect to find within Nidd Gorge itself. |
For the most part, the majority of the site is fairly level and easily accessible for walkers. However, the site drops steeply at its northerly point where the disused viaduct is located. As such, some footpaths are steep and stout footwear is recommended for anybody wanting to take advantage of any walks within this woodland.
The site offers magnificent and uninterrupted views to the west due to its elevation at its easterly point.
