Road Markings are provided to help road users by giving
different types of information on lane use and directions and are
as important as Road Traffic Signs.
Longitudinal markings inform and warn road users of
approaching situations that will require them to take some form of
action, for example: solid white line - do not cross, lane line -
turn right.
Transverse road markings also give instruction ( for example
stop or give way).
The
Highway Code gives examples of the road markings in normal
use.
All road markings on the highway must be authorised by
Harrogate Borough Council, as agents for the North Yorkshire County
Council (the Highway Authority) in Harrogate and
Knaresborough. Special road markings are sometimes approved by
the Department for Transport.
Road markings are generally repainted at regular intervals but
due to traffic flows some can wear out more quickly than others. If
you wish to report road markings within the
Agency Area that have become worn or
unclear and require attention, or have been covered over after road
works please use the form below.
For information on roadmarkings relating to parking and
waiting restrictions (ie. Double yellow lines), please see Parking & Waiting
Restrictions.
