Low Bridge Gardens Knaresborough restored
OVER two hundred tonnes of recycled compost have
been tipped over a wall in Knaresborough to restore Low Bridge
Gardens the small park situated on the corner of Low Bridge and
Abbey Road.
The gardens were first created thirty years ago and Harrogate
Borough Council hopes these improvements, which also include a new
water safety barrier, will lead to Low Bridge Gardens once again
becoming a well-used park. Visitors will be able
to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this quiet corner of
Knaresborough as well as the magnificent views leading up to the
House in the Rock and along the riverside.
Patrick Kilburn, Head of Parks and Open Spaces,
said: "The gardens are not easy to maintain as
they are situated at the bottom of a slope with access being via
stone steps leading from the bridge. We have
taken nothing out of the gardens but adding this recycled compost
to encourage growth and creating a new shrub border will help
maintain the slope and make it easier for our gardening team to
look after. This is a lovely little resting
place to come and relax and watch the river
life. We have repaired the flood damaged walls
and created a water safety barrier which will make it much safer
for children to use."
The improvements also include the creation of a new footpath,
the addition of four new recycled park benches, a new litterbin and
over 300 square metres of turf have been laid.
