Cost to Install

  Household 15kW              £4,500*
*Costs will vary according to fuel type and heat demand

Grants

Renewable energy grants are available from the Government, via the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. .

Advantages of bio-fuels
  • CO2 released equals the amount absorbed during the crop's growth
  • Plentiful fuel sources in forestry and agriculture waste
  • Established technology
  • Can provide local employment

The transport of fuel can cause pollution, storage space is required and maintenance is necessary.

Planning permission may be required if new construction is needed and may not be available to households in smokeless zones unless your boiler system is an exempted appliance. To check this contact Harrogate Borough Council's Environmental Health team on 01423 556633.

Large bioenergy installations may require additional industrial process permissions from the Environment Agency.
