Roads & Highways - Closures and Diversions

Sometimes road works, crane deliveries, temporary obstructions and temporary events require a road to be closed temporarily to general traffic.  Such closures require a traffic regulation order issued by the highway authority.  As there is a legal and consultative process to be undertaken, at least three months notice of a road closure is required, in order to co-ordinate any future works on the highway and to ensure all statutory bodies are consulted on the proposals.

All costs involved for both the closure and diversion signing will have to be met by the person requesting the closure.

Further details on how to apply for a road closure are detailed on Road Markings and Signing - Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders

Road closures and street disruptions within the Agency area are dealt with by Harrogate Borough Council and outside the Agency area by North Yorkshire County Council.

A schedule of all the road closures due to be undertaken in the Harrogate and Knaresborough highways agency area are detailed on Road Markings and Signing - Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders.  See also Carriageway Resurfacing Works.

Details of public disruptions for the whole of the Harrogate District are available to view on the North Yorkshire County Council website.
