This week Harrogate Borough Council's Parks team have been
busy building another viaduct in Knaresborough, only this one will
not be quite strong enough to carry any trains!
Constructed of marigolds, begonias and ageratum the
viaduct is the winning design of Knaresborough In Bloom's
Design A Flowerbed Competition and now takes
pride of place alongside the bowling green at Knaresborough
Castle.
The Knaresborough in Bloom group launched the competition
for schoolchildren in the town aged 5 to 11 with a
theme of The Area I Live In last year and had plenty
of entries to judge. After much deliberation eight-year-old Bernice
Lister from Castle CE Junior School was chosen as the
winner.
"We chose Bernice's design because it was unmistakably
Knaresborough" said one of the judges, "It was also a bold and
simple idea that we knew would make an impact when planted."
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Bernice Lister will be able to
see her winning design fully bedded out alongside the bowling green
at Knaresborough Castle on Thursday 16th June at 3pm.
Members of Harrogate Borough Council's Parks team will also be
present along with a member of Knaresborough In Bloom.
NOTES TO EDITORS: Highly commended entries came
from Zuleika von Benecka, also a pupil at Castle CE Junior School,
Victoria Leigh from The Forest School and Hayden Nelson from
Meadowside Primary School.
