Harrogate district's green champions will be enjoying their
own celebrations on
4 July, at the prestigious Best Action for the Environment
Road Show (BAFTERS' awards), organised by Harrogate Council.
Popular BBC weather presenter Paul Hudson will be the special
guest at the glitzy ceremony and he will be announcing the prize
winners.
Paul will present the three main BAFTERS Awards to the local
school, community group and business that have shown the best
environmental action over the past year.
Outstanding achievement awards for energy action and waste
reduction will also be announced.
The BAFTERS create the opportunity to reward local people who
have taken significant action to help protect the
environment.
Guests will be given the full red-carpet treatment as they
gather at the Swallow St. George Hotel in Harrogate for the event,
which will be opened by the Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate
(Councillor Caroline Bayliss).
Paul Hudson presented the BAFTERS Awards last year, and
he is pleased to be returning for the 2005 BAFTERS.
He said: "Nowadays we are faced with more
and more environmental problems, like climate change, pollution,
and too much waste. "As a weather forecaster, I am
constantly reminded of the effects of climate change, when I see
fiercer storms, floods, hotter temperatures and other
extreme weather. That's why it's so important to take action
now, and every one of us has a part to play.
"The BAFTERS awards are a great opportunity for local
organisations to get the recognition they deserve for helping to
protect and improve our environment and I am pleased to be able to
present the awards again this year."
