Friends wanted for Bebra Gardens
BEAUTIFUL Bebra Gardens in Knaresborough have
brought pleasure to generations of local people.
And Harrogate Borough Council's Parks' Team is hoping that families
with fond memories of the Gardens will come forward to help them
form a "Friends of Bebra Gardens Group".
Nestling on the cliff side in Knaresborough, it is easy to see
why the Gardens were known as Moat Gardens when they opened in
1931. The were
re-named Bebra Gardens in honour of the town's excellent
twinning arrangements with Bebra in Germany.
Harrogate Council's Parks' Team is keen to see local people
help in the development of a new management plan for the area,
which includes many attractive features.
Mr Patrick Kilburn, Head of Parks and Open Spaces, said:
"Bebra Gardens are delightful and must have one
of the most spectacular views of any public garden in the
country. But the time is right to look at the
way we plan and manage for the various seasons to make sure that
people can get pleasure from the Gardens all year
round.
"Friends groups have worked exceptionally well in other parks
and gardens in the district, particularly in Ripon where the Spa
Gardens have just been awarded their fifth Green Flag
award. By creating a partnership with local
people in Knaresborough, it will help us when we are seeking grants
from outside funding agencies. It will also make
sure that we have a public park that suits their needs.
"We hope that as many people as possible will come to the
public meeting next week to get on board with our team to help us
revitalise the Gardens."
The public meeting is being held at Knaresborough House on
Tuesday,
9 August 2005 at 7.30pm everyone is
welcome. ENDS
